  • The reviews are in for Chicago CONNECTIONS!

    11.08.17

We had such a great time at LeBook CONNECTIONS in Chicago this past September! Now that a recap of the event has officially been posted, we thought we'd let some of our favorite reviews speak for themselves:

"I was very impressed with the caliber of artists and companies represented at the show. Truly the best of the best!"
-Reid Thompson, NESTLE PURINA, Group Creative Director

"Work! More work! More amazing work! Put together thoughtfully and considerately to get the most of all the artists. I'm exhausted---in a good way!"
-Megan Evans, OGILVY & MATHER, Creative Director

"Such an inspiring room full of creatives and the people who love and appreciate them. I want to come back soon!"
-Angie Vicencio, LANE BRYANT, Art Director

"I will be forever thankful for the genuine connections I made today. A word to describe the event would be authentic. Exhibitors didn't feel like they were selling--they were listening. In a world that seems to shout at you everyday, it's nice to have the right people listen."
-Eric Sawitoski, AON, Senior Director & Global Creative Director

"This year’s CONNECTIONS was a really great production. I was delighted by the sights and sounds of creativity. The sustained energy level of communicating with the top level agents in the country and previewing global work keeps me coming back."
-Christine Oliver, LEO BURNETT, Sr. Production Coordinator

  • Marcus Nilsson captures the art of the dinner party

    11.03.17

Marcus Nilsson was the perfect choice to photograph the "Art of the Dinner Party" editorial for New York Times Magazine about the elegance and revelry of the perfect dinner party. He captures the exact feeling at the end of the evening with his unique lighting- the wine has been flowing, the cheese plate has been devoured, each guest has shared the best story they have and the host can relax after a job well done.

  • Kate Spade advertising by James Merrell

    10.23.17

This is James Merrell’s second shoot with Kate Spade! Between the bright light, the pops of color and patterns, and his use of the space, James captures the essence of the Kate Spade brand perfectly. James himself told us a bit about the process behind the scenes:

"The Kate Spade commission was a very interesting project as it combined quite a specific brief with a relative degree of creative freedom. The design team had prepared a fairly resolved set of mood boards for us to look at, then we provided our point of view to expand and enhance their vision. Along with the rest of the creative team we mulled over the references and set to work creating the right set of circumstances for the pictures to be realised.

Finding the right location was a crucial part of the process, as it firstly had to fit the look, but also accommodate all the furniture, props and crew. We also had to keep light in mind, as this was to be an available light only project (as is most of our work). Once the right location had been found for scale, look and light we then decided to paint it to provide a suitable looking space for our imaginary girl to live in.

On the shoot day, the art director, stylist and myself set about finding angles, dressing the set and placing the Kate Spade product to best advantage, trying to create a natural look but with a bit of a twist. The shooting days themselves went extremely smoothly thanks to a great deal of preparation by the production team - we were after a casual feel to the pictures as though one had just popped round to a friends place - it's always interesting to see how many people it takes to make it look as though nothing really happened."

You can find James' other work with Kate Spade here!

Debi Treloar, the newest photographer on the Ashley Klinger & Co. roster, worked with Bloomingdale's on their Home September 2017 catalog, and even nabbed the cover! Designed with rich colors and plush textures, the spaces are the epitome of luxe living. The simple lines, decadent materials, and soft lighting bring everything together to remind us of how luxurious our dream homes can be. We're so glad to have her on our team!

  • Mikkel Vang visits the historic Apthorp for Elle Decor

    10.16.17

Elle Decor sent Mikkel Vang to the historic Upper West Side apartment building, the Apthorp, for their November 2017 issue! He had the pleasure of capturing the classic aesthetic of the newly renovated apartment of conductor and composer Jonathan Sheffer, transformed by designer Robert Couturier. The space hearkens back to the time of artists and intellectuals hobnobbing at the same elegant cocktail parties, when the famous building housed the likes of Lena Horne, Nora Ephron, and Joseph Heller; Mikkel's softly lit interiors coupled with the contrasty black and white portrait captures that vibe perfectly.

Marcus Nilsson travelled across the globe, between LA and Thailand, to shoot for the much-anticipated NIGHT + MARKET cookbook! NIGHT + MARKET is a popular Los Angeles restaurant, frequented by celebrities like Gwenyth Paltrow, Lena Dunham, Questlove, and Daft Punk, that specializes in delicious and authentic Thai street food. Run by the 33-year-old Kris Yenbamroong, the unofficial mission statement of the restaurant (and partial book title) is "We aim to make the most delicious and authentic Thai food to facilitate drinking and fun-having amongst friends." Marcus' fun and unique imagery, mixing bright colors with contrast lighting and the perfect balance of food, still life and portraiture, brings that statement to life in this spectacular cookbook. • Introducing Debi Treloar!

    10.10.17

Ashley Klinger & Co. sat down with our newest addition, interiors photographer Debi Treloar, to ask her about her background, inspiration, and the most unique place she's ever shot!

     -

AK&Co.: To start, could you tell me a little bit about where you’re from?

Debi Treloar: I am from Zimbabwe orginally, and I studied art and photography in South Africa, but I have been living and working in London since I was 20-ish.

AK&Co.: What drew you to interiors specifically when you decided to pursue a career in photography?

DT: I am very nosy and was really interested in the way people live. I love knowing what people eat for breakfast... where they buy their sofa and how they came to choose the colours they live with... I am not sure why... I think I am just curious. Working in Interiors photography is a treat for me. It ticks lots of boxes.

     -

AK&Co.: Out of all of the locations you’ve photographed, which has been your favorite?

DT: Ah, there have been many. The people who live in the houses are normally what make them amazing. The Bailey's house in Hereford is amazing. They have a shop called Baileys Home and Garden, which is next to their house and is mind blowing. I have photographed their house so many times but every time it's different; they are a truly inspiring couple with an incredible sense of style and taste. They have the philosophy to make something out of nothing so it's unique- it's simple and complex at the same time.

    AK&Co.: And the strangest?

DT: I am not sure I should mention that! The most unusual is the stylist Ann Shores house in Shoreditch, London. It was a shack in central London... a large white washed painted wooden shed... a wonderful world of collections. Texture, plants and beauty. I think it's the place I would most have liked to live in.

     -

AK&Co.: When it comes to interior design, what are your must-haves?

DT: A sense of not taking it all too seriously- after all we are just on this planet for a short time. I don't think I have specifics but I do like things that are well designed with great functionality. My sofa makes me happy because it's comfy, can fit 5 people on and it looks good, but it's not a must have. Great appliances become must haves to me because they can help so much in daily life. A vitamix to me is a must have and an electric blanket :)

AK&Co.: What would you say your personal design aesthetic is?

DT: Ohh... I am not predictable... some days I like stark and simple, and others eclectic and boho. My home is a mixture of both. I like workwear with a touch of something special. I think I mostly like beautiful things, that are well thought out and that are real in a space with good light.

      -

AK&Co.: Does that influence your work at all?

DT: Yes, definitely. I like my pictures to feel easy to look at and be alive with light and mood. Even in the most simple picture, I like to feel where the light is coming from. I am not good at flat and bland.

AK&Co.: You also shoot lifestyle, exteriors, food, and portraits. How do the processes differ?

DT: I started out doing fashion and beauty and used to shoot a lot more food and people, but I find the interiors more challenging. I do still do some people, food, etc. but for me it's always about the light and the connection to what you are photographing, what ever it is.

     -

AK&Co.: Do you have any advice for aspiring photographers?

DT: If it's what you really want to do and you have some talent, keep trying and don't give up. Learn the technical stuff backwards and then try to forget about it so you concentrate just on what's in front of you. Above all, have fun and enjoy it- it's the most amazing way to earn a living.

AK&Co.: What is something you’d like people to know about yourself and your work?

DT: I love life and try to live it in an all-encompassing way with thought and consideration and try to follow this through in my work and everything I do.

Mikkel Vang and Hans Blomquist teamed up for the Bloomingdale's Home catalog, and the results are a prime example of modern glamour. Inspired by chic pop-up Chalets all over Europe, Hans' styling is the perfect combination of romantic and minimalist, while Mikkel's soft lighting makes one feel like they're cozying up by the fireplace, cappuccino in hand, while a blizzard rages just outside on the French Alps.

    09.25.17

Two Ashley Klinger & Co. artists, one beautiful catalog! Mikkel Vang traveled to three locations in the greater Los Angeles area to capture the perfect combination of light and airy spaces, fun patterns and sophisticated classics. As both the prop stylist and Art Director for these shoots, Hans Blomquist was the mastermind from start to finish, coming up with concepts and moodboards, then mixing colors, textures and various accents to make each space look unique and cohesive. We love to see our artists team up and make great work- and this catalog's tranquil mixture of contemporary, classic and quirky is a prime example of just that!
